What's New at Deer Valley East Village

The mountain across the street from our house has turned into one of the biggest ski stories in the West. If you haven't skied the east side of Deer Valley yet, this is the winter to do it. Here's what's new, what's coming, and how to make it easy when two families are traveling together.

What Happened to Mayflower Mountain Resort?

If you've been searching for "Mayflower," you've found the right place. Mayflower Mountain Resort was the original name for the ski development on the east side of the Jordanelle Reservoir. In 2023, Deer Valley partnered with the project and made it part of its expansion. It's now called Deer Valley East Village.

You get the same mountain, now connected to Deer Valley's lifts, grooming, and service. Plenty of locals still call it Mayflower, and so do we sometimes. But if you're booking lessons or looking at a trail map, you'll see "East Village."

Hail Peak Express + the 200 New Acres

The big news for 2026/27 is the Hail Peak Express. The new lift climbs from East Village to Hail Peak and opens about 200 new skiable acres, with seven new runs debuting this season.

It builds on last winter's major expansion, which included the ten-passenger East Village Express Gondola running nearly three miles up to Park Peak. All together, Deer Valley now offers around 4,500 skiable acres. That's more than double what it had just a few years ago.

For families, the extra acreage isn't about bragging rights. It's about room. More terrain means shorter lines, more space on the greens and blues for beginners, and new runs for the advanced skiers to explore.

2026/27 Opening Day

Deer Valley is scheduled to open Friday, December 5, 2026, conditions permitting.

Christmas, New Year's, MLK weekend, and Presidents' Day fill up early here. If you're lining up school calendars for two families, settle on dates now and book lessons and lift tickets ahead of time. Deer Valley limits daily skier numbers, so peak days can sell out.

Getting There Without a Car (Free Shuttle + Gondola)

This is the part our guests love most. The Jordanelle Gondola is right across the street from The Park City Escape, and a free shuttle runs to Deer Valley East Village and to Deer Valley.

That means no hunting for parking, no Park City traffic, and no one stuck driving everybody to the lifts. With two families, it also means everyone can go at their own pace. The early risers catch first chair. The family with a napping little one heads up after lunch. Nobody waits on anybody.

Getting here is easy, too. Salt Lake City International is about 40 minutes away, and you come in on the east side, so you skip the resort traffic entirely.

What's Open in the Village Now vs. Coming 2027/28

East Village is still growing, so here's an honest look at where things stand.

Open now:

  • The East Village Express Gondola, plus the new lifts and expanded terrain

  • Hail Peak Express, new for 2026/27

  • Canopy by Hilton Deer Valley, right beside the Jordanelle Gondola, with restaurants and a rooftop lounge

  • Grand Hyatt Deer Valley

Coming for 2027/28 and beyond:

  • The Deer Valley East Village Lodge, currently under construction

  • More dining, shops, and hotels in the village over the next several years

The skiing is fully here now, and the village around it gets better every season. You're getting in early.

Where Two Families Can Stay…

The Park City Escape was set up for exactly this kind of trip: two families, one house, everyone with room to breathe.

  • 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, sleeps up to 10, all on one level

  • A separate wing with its own living room and kitchenette, so each family has a place to reset

  • A hot tub for tired legs after a big ski day

  • Pet-friendly, so the dog doesn't miss out

  • Across the street from the Jordanelle Gondola, with a free shuttle to Deer Valley East Village and Deer Valley

Beginners and experts ski the same mountain, meet up for lunch, and end the night around the same table. Two families. One house. One mountain. Zero stress.
